PERMANENT WOOD
JIMMY D. BURGESS

ABOUT JIMMY
In the time that he was alive, my father always lived with a true sense of purpose. More than anything though, he thrived in a creative space. His talents and abilities as a songwriter and musician were elevated by consistent immersion into the creative process. No matter the moment, he would follow an idea to its fruition. He would utilize every skill he possessed. His approach made me understand that it takes true commitment to your craft, and to yourself, to become the artist that you envision yourself to be.

Beyond his artistry, he was as much a loving father and husband. There was no situation he didn't know how to navigate through. There was only ever love, care and a true sense of knowing.

ABOUT THE ALBUM
Toward the end of the 1990s, in collaboration with drummer and friend Robert Bach, Jimmy wrote and produced a collection of songs that would make up his last studio album. These songs were inspired by experiences that we all can relate to, whether it be love, loss or the human condition. Drawing parallels to the growth rings formed in trees, Permanent Wood represents my father's full realization and intention to live beyond the physical self. Forever within music.

The album was originally completed in the year 2000 and released independently by Jimmy that year. Through his passing in 2017, my mother and I felt that these songs would see new life in the digital age, something he would have always wanted. We hope you enjoy this album as much as we have over the years.
In remembrance of Jimmy D. Burgess.
Forever loved.
